RHINOPLASTY FAQs
Another popular procedure, rhinoplasty refers to surgical procedures that alter the size and shape of the nose. As the most prominent of facial features, it is unsurprising that many people are dissatisfied with the natural structure of their noses. Film stars and celebrities are great fans of this procedure, and as a result many men and women then approach their own plastic surgeons with requests for a nose like Brad Pitt or Ashlee Simpson after their surgery.
Q&A TIME
How long does the procedure take? Between 90 minutes
and 3 hours.
I’ve heard of two methods - Open and Closed. Which
is the better option? With the open technique, a cut is
made across the section of flesh separating the nostrils, exposing
the cartilage and bone beneath. This is an extremely precise method
but it does leave a small scar. Although the scar fades in time,
most surgeons prefer the closed technique where the surgeon sculptures
the nose from inside the nostrils.
Is it true that I will need to have a chin augmentation? Sometimes this is recommended to create the most balanced effect. Your surgeon will discuss this with you.
How much pain will I experience? Expect extreme discomfort, swelling and bruising when you come around from the anesthetic. The bruising will last for about a week while the swelling and discomfort can continue for a fortnight and it will take at least six months before you can see your true profile.
How Long Will the Effects Last? Apart from natural aging changes such as the nose tip drooping with time, the effect is lifelong.
What can go wrong? While the procedure is generally safe, getting the exact effect desired by the patient is extremely tricky. Select a surgeon skilled and experienced in rhinoplasty for this procedure!
