Leg vein laser treatment
How does it work?
This VascuLight vein treatment is used for both varicose veins and spider veins, but is used in different ways. Because the deeper blue veins of varicose veins are harder to remove, patients had to sometimes resort to painful, invasive surgery techniques. However, with the VascuLight system, the laser energy from the small beam is absorbed into the vein based on the wavelength of the colour of the beam. This energy is converted into heat, which coagulates the blood and collapses the vein wall. Immediately the vein becomes smaller and less obvious. Over time, the vein will be re-absorbed into the body and disappear from sight.
With spider veins (veins which appear under the skin like a spider's web) require a lesser strength light beam - technically not a laser at all. The same process is used by this light technology, but with less intensity.
How effective is the treatment?
Although the appearance will improve almost immediately, the veins may develop matting or staining around the treated vessel. The treatment should be continued for the next months, as beautiful, mark-free legs are well worth the wait. As with any cosmetic leg vein laser treatments, spider or varicose veins may need treatment over a few moths until the result is achieved.
