FACE LIFT
Your face is the most visible part of your body, and most often the part of you that people notice and remember on meeting you for the first time.
Having surgery on the face therefore requires serious thought as the results can be life changing – one way or another. The risks are also not to be forgotten. However when done for the right reasons and, with realistic expectations, a face lift can do wonders for your self-esteem.
One of the most well-known of all cosmetic surgeries, the face lift (also known as rhytidectomy) has come a long way over the years.
My aim of a face lift is to improve the facial appearance by the tightening of muscles and the removal of excess skin. Rather than the 'mask-'like' results experienced by some in the past, today's face lifts restore the lost volume, offering a more natural result with refined contours and younger-looking skin.
Dr. Wilkinson will take into account your age, the condition of your skin, your natural face-shape and structure, and advise you accordingly.
The most common face lift procedure involves a 3 hour operation during which incisions are made around the earlobes and back to the hairline. The skin is then draped as desired, the excess removed and the muscles may be repositioned. Dr Wilkinson aims to achieve a natural, rejuvenated look in all her patients and therefore in most cases combines her surgical facelift with lipo(fat)filling of the face. The reason is that besides the effects of loose skin due to aging, replacement of the underlying supportive soft tissues is just as important. This also enables her to shorten the scar resulting in most patients receiving a short scar or s-lift facelift.
In some instances small drainage tubes may be temporarily inserted for the reduction of swelling.
Recovery time is usually between 10 days and 2 weeks, although some bruising may take longer to fade.
While you may look up to 10 years younger, this procedure cannot stop the aging process and many patients have surgery again around 15 years later.
