EYELID SURGERY
An eyelid tuck or blepharoplasty is a simple procedure that I commonly recommend to my patients. The eyes are essential for a beautiful youthful look. Many of my patients complain about looking tired and angry and are astounded at how an eyelid tuck can revive their look and reveal their bright sparkling eyes again.
As we age, the very delicate skin and supporting structures around the eyelids easily stretches. The upper lids sag, creating a hooded look. In the lower lids this sagging is present as "bags" and creates a tired appearance. In severe cases this extra skin can even interfere with your vision.
Eyelid surgery is performed as a day case under local anaesthetic with sedation if required and usually takes an hour or two. The surgery involves the removal fatty deposits (ie bags) and tightening of excess skin around the eyes. Upper or lower lids can be done separately or together.
Eyelid surgery will not improve a sagging brow. Therefore, I occasionally combine a brow suspension with blepharoplasty if indicated.
Recovery is relatively quick and the sutures are all removed by day 7. Most of the swelling and bruising subsides over two or three weeks.
The scars may remain pink for 6 months, but will eventually fade, leaving you with a more alert and youthful look that will last for years. For many people, these results are permanent.
