One of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the world, liposuction or suction lipoplasty in my practice offers a means to my patients of losing stubborn fat deposits that are resistant to standard dietary and exercise regimes. Liposuction can be performed under local or general aneasthetic – most surgeons recommend general anaesthetic.
Your surgeon may inject certain fluids prior to surgery which can assist in reducing bruising, while thinning the fat to be removed.
The fat is then suctioned out of the body by a special tube which is inserted at different sites into small incisions – these leave little to no visible scarring.
You can anticipate a 10 day recuperation period, and will most likely wear a special ‘pressure’ garment for up to 6 weeks.
