Non-surgical

Silhouette Soft Thread Lift

Today, many patients are seeking out less invasive procedures with minimal downtime. For this reason the “scarless” face lift has become more popular, also commonly referred to as the “lunchtime facelift”, because it’s a quick and relatively painless procedure that one can choose to undergo.

By the time we reach the age of 40, the effect of gravity on the face starts to become visible. This is because as you age, you lose the fat in your face, your cheekbones become less prominent and the thinning skin collects as jowls in the jawline.

For those patients who start to show these signs of ageing, but feel that a traditional face lift procedure is too invasive, or who feel that the sagging does not yet warrant full surgery, a thread lift may be an option.

The introduction of the newer technology in thread lifting, Silhouette Soft, has increased the popularity of this technique. These threads have tiny cogs along the length of the  thread, which perform 2 functions. Firstly, they provide anchorage points to achieve a secure lift, and, they stimulate the production of more collagen along the length of the thread.

This minimally invasive alternative lift can redefine the cheeks, tighten the skin around the eyes, reduce the nasolabial lines, lift the brow and control the sagging in the minor jowls and neck.

Due to the fact that ageing of the face is a complex process that doesn’t just affect the skin, thread lifting is usually used in conjunction with a number of other procedures such as Botulinum toxin, dermal fillers, chemical peels and lasers to enhance an overall rejuvenating effect.

Risks are minimal and usually temporary. Sometimes asymmetry in the face and puckering of the skin can occur. Additionally, patients with extremely thin skin may experience visible threads, which are problematic. Additionally, in some cases, Hematoma and infection can occur, but are treatable in most cases.

The most common side effect, in my opinion is an unsatisfactory result. It is possible that the thread will not achieve the lift you are looking for, in which case the only other option is a surgical facelift.

The Procedure

Most patients I see in my practice who have a mild amount of sagging are suitable candidates for a thread lifting procedure, provided they have realistic expectations of what the surgery can achieve. I will however make sure that your skin is thick enough, as too thin skin is not suitable for the procedure. If a significant amount of lifting is required, I may recommend a surgical facelift.
The thread lift works through me inserting tiny threads into the subcutaneous fat underneath the skin and gently pulling them back to create a lift. The threads leave virtually no scars, are simple to insert and, there’s very little recovery time needed. However it is important to understand that the lift they produce is not as great as with standard face lifting.

The procedure can take between 30 minutes and  2 hours, depending on the amount and position of the threads used. You will be admitted to my office based procedure room as day / morning case. The treatment is usually carried out under a light oral sedation and local anesthetic. Plasters are applied over the threads to prevent loss of the tightening effect over the next 3 days.

You will be discharged with plasters overlying the threads, and should arrange for someone to accompany you on your way home. The plasters are removed after 3 days, while pain and discomfort can be present for between 3 and 7 days.

Most patients return to normal activities within 3 to 5 days, depending on their swelling and bruising. You can expect to see results for 18 months on average.

Many patients continue to undergo multiple thread lifting procedures throughout their lives, whilst others may decide to progress to a more conventional facelift after some time.

I have over 20 years of experience in the field of plastic surgery, and fully understand my patients and their emotions, which allows me to provide optimal care. Additionally, my staff are exceedingly well trained and equipped to provide you with incredible pre and post operative care.
