Non-surgical

Dermapen

Medical Skin needling (dermapen) is one of the most popular, non surgical treatments amongst maturing females who wish to treat wrinkles and increase the collagen content of their skin. This treatment is an effective method for anyone looking to reverse the hands of time and combat signs of ageing in the neck, chest and face.

Also referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) , this revolutionary skin tightening technology was pioneered by Dr Desmond Fernandes, an internationally renowned plastic surgeon and partner at the Renaissance Surgical clinic.

The dermapen consists of microneedles that are run over the skin, creating microscopic punctures in the skin and stimulates the skin’s natural regeneration process.

This treatment is exceptionally beneficial to those who’ve noticed deepening wrinkles in the skin, or who wish to rid themselves of different types of scarring, keloid and stretch marks in a specific area.
Once you’ve undergone treatment, you should notice the results from your procedure within a period of one day to a week. Previously noticeable scarring and stretch marks will have reduced in severity and wrinkles should appear shallower.

However, you may need to come in for more than one dermapen treatment, depending on the severity of your wrinkles, scars, or stretchmarks.

The results of this treatment are long lasting, however, you may be required to come in for maintenance once every six months after your first procedure.

”Your skin is a really excellent indicator of what is going on inside your body”

When a Dermapen treatment is performed by a reputable surgeon,  the risks you face diminish significantly. One of the things you may notice is that your skin becomes slightly inflamed and pink, but this usually subsides after the first day or two.

However, if you have a history of eczema, psoriasis or a similar, chronic skin condition you will be advised accordingly depending on the severity of your condition.

The Procedure

I will examine the area of the skin you wish to treat with Collagen Induction Therapy to assess the elasticity, damage and quality. This determines how many treatments will be necessary to garner your desired results.

Prior to your consultation, you should conduct your own research into what is involved in a dermapen treatment. Not only does this put your mind at ease, but it can also help you find any questions you want me to answer.

During your consultation with me, it’s vital that you’re transparent regarding your medical history and any chronic medication you’re taking. We should also be on the same page regarding your expectations of the treatment. Should our viewpoints not line-up, I’m more than happy to suggest other options for your desired results.

Once we have finalised all necessary information and input, we can proceed to the next step.

Prior to treatment, we apply a numbing cream onto the desired area and wait for it to take effect. You can expect to feel slight discomfort for the duration of the treatment, and depending on how severe the scarring or wrinkling in the targeted area, the more discomfort you’ll feel.

Once this has taken effect, we can start with your treatment. The micro-needling of the procedure lasts between 30 and 60 minutes.

After your treatment, your skin will be sensitive and you should avoid using perfumed creams and moisturisers, as this can further irritate the skin. However, you will be provided with enough topical cream for your recovery period.

It’s important to avoid exposure to direct sunlight for at least two weeks, as your skin will be extremely sensitive. An over-the-counter sunscreen with a high factor rating should suffice for when you do need to go outside.

Avoid scratching crusts or scabs that form as it will damage your skin. Additionally, you should refrain from smoking as this inhibits the production of collagen in your skin.
